On October 15th, YouTuber NOID posted a version of the video set to Frank Ocean's "Ivy," gaining over 11,400 views in a similar span of time (shown below, right). On October 2nd, YouTuber Mjj67 posted a video where Squidward listens to Guts' Theme, gaining over 12,200 views in over a year (shown below, left). On June 4th, Twitter user posted a meme using the crying image, gaining over 65,000 likes and 42,000 retweets in a similar span of time (shown below, right). On May 1st, Redditor TheSugarySugarySugar posted a meme to /r/dankmemes using the original photoshop next to a Handsome Squidward image, gaining over 67,000 upvotes in two years (shown below, left). On January 9th, 2020, Twitter user posted a version of the meme as a reaction to the tracklisting for Mac Miller's "Circles." On April 11th, Twitter user posted a video using a cleaned-up version of the crying photoshop over a BTS song, gaining over 218,000 views in two years (shown below). It is unconfirmed who created the photoshop first. On November 29th, YouTuber Tsuri posted a video using the meme set to "Your Affection" from Persona 4, gaining over 2,700 views in three years (shown below).Ī photoshopped version of the image adding tears to Squidward's eyes started to circulate in early 2020. On November 7th, Redditor farrukhsshah posted a screenshotted tweet using the meme to /r/BikiniBottomTwitter, gaining over 190 upvotes in three years. On November 2nd, Twitter user quote-tweeted the post, writing, "As I grow older I understand the basis of Squidward’s character more and more," gaining over 175,000 likes and 60,000 retweets in three years (shown below). On October 29th, 2019, Twitter user posted the photoshop of Squidward in bed captioned "Sco pa tu manaa," a reference to the song "Daavi Neba" by Ghanian artist Kawoula Biov, gaining over 9,800 quote tweets in three years. They posted the same photoshop to their page on an unknown date, which was pinned by Pinterest user Mayela Valdes. Alternatively, now-deleted Tumblr user seventhanbu7 may have created the image. It is unclear if the user photoshopped it or found it elsewhere. This is the earliest confirmed upload of the image. On October 20th, 2019, now-deleted Twitter user posted a photoshop of a screenshot from the scene adding headphones into Squidward's ears and an MP3 player or phone on the bed next to him (shown below). On May 17th, 2019, YouTuber VCarry NL posted a video from Instagram user hennydemiks (now deleted) showing Squidward lying in a bed listening to "Marvin's Room" by Drake, gaining over 55,000 views in three years (shown below). In one scene, Squidward lays in bed, rolls himself up in his blanket, then falls to the floor and rolls under the bed (shown below).
